The Heart to Heart Story

Premiered: February 14, 2009

One out of every one hundred babies is born with a congenital heart defect, also known as pediatric heart disease. In countries like the United States, treatment is readily available, but that’s not the case elsewhere in the world. Heart to Heart’s mission is to improve pediatric cardiac care in Russia, a task the organization began 20 years ago.

Heart to Heart is a non-profit organization based in Oakland, CA, that provides free medical services, extensive training and education, and medical supplies to sponsored hospitals in Russia. Highly experienced medical professionals from some of the top clinics in the U.S. travel to Russia to help treat patients. But the most important service they provide is to help train doctors, nurses, and hospital staff in Russia, leaving behind a permanent legacy of education in the medical sub-specialties of pediatric and adult cardiac care.
